Praying for Capacity Before You Need It: Preparing for Growth, Opportunity, and Purpose

We all love to pray for opportunities. Bigger platforms, larger projects, more visibility, more impact. But I learned something that changed the way I pray and the way I prepare. You cannot just ask for the opportunity, you have to ask for the capacity to hold it.

Because what good is a blessing if it breaks you?

Before I stepped into my largest mural project, I had to get honest with myself. Mentally, physically, and spiritually. I had to ask myself if I was truly ready for the weight that comes with growth. Long days, heavy lifts, big decisions, pressure, visibility, and responsibility all come with the opportunities we pray for. And if you are not prepared, those same blessings can overwhelm you.

So I shifted my prayers.

Instead of only asking for more, I started asking to become more. God, prepare me. God, strengthen me. God, expand me before you elevate me. I needed the discipline, the endurance, the clarity, and the resilience before the moment arrived.

And He did.

Not overnight and not easily, but intentionally.

Capacity is not built when everything is going well. It is built in the quiet seasons, in the discipline, in the moments nobody sees. It is built when you choose to keep going, when you take care of your body, when you strengthen your mind, and when you stay grounded in your faith even when nothing around you is changing yet.

That preparation matters.

Because when the opportunity comes, you do not want to meet it unprepared. You want to meet it ready. Ready to lead, ready to execute, ready to sustain what you have built. Ready to carry the weight of the vision without losing yourself in the process.

I have learned that growth is not just about access, it is about readiness. It is about becoming the version of yourself that can handle what you have been asking for. That means taking your mental health seriously, taking your physical health seriously, and staying spiritually aligned so you can move with clarity and confidence.

Do not just focus on getting to the next level. Focus on being able to stay there.

So if you are in a season where things feel quiet or slow, do not rush it. Use that time to build your capacity. Strengthen your foundation. Sharpen your discipline. Because when your moment comes, and it will, you will not feel overwhelmed. You will feel prepared.

Do not just ask for more.

Ask to become more.
